The Things We Do | |
|
SPRING is committed to reaching out to the community's poor and underserved by providing practical household items such as furniture, small appliances and baby equipment to families in crisis due to poverty, abuse and mental illness. We have distributed items to local homeless shelters in Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William and Fauquier Counties and to individuals and families who "fall through the gaps" in the social service system. Our work right now is done primarily through social workers in the Fairfax County Public School System whose clients get basic services for food and housing but are left unable to afford furniture, eating utensils, and other practical items.

Here are the areas were you can get plugged in: · Receivers & sorters: People needed to help take in/transport donations and sort them by category. We have all kinds of household items, small furniture, children's items and clothing that needs to be sorted and organized. · Deliverers: People to join the delivery team for those times we deliver directly to someone in the community. People with trucks are especially welcome for that purpose, but we could use individual cars to haul smaller items to the local agencies that use us as a resource. · Organizers: A person with the gift of organizing the storage unit in order to maintain an efficient system for intake and outtake. · Inventory: A person/team of people to be responsible for helping maintain inventory in the storage units. · Technical support: A person/team of people to help create a web based inventory system among other things. · Community connections: A person or several people who were interested in researching and making connections with local community organizations. These organizations would either benefit from our support, i.e. WFCM or would be able to support us. Contact Erika Rizkallah at 703-222-8836 for more info.

Get Real Youth Outreach A Recovery and Support Care Ministry for Teens Get Real Youth Outreach exists to create faith-based support groups for teens and pre-teens that empower them to confront and discuss the struggles caused by poor self-image, peer pressure, personal loss, dysfunctional families and/or painful relationships by dealing with deep-root issues, not just symptoms. These groups will provide students with insight and tools that help each student process and cope with their deepest pain. Group coursework will provide them with valuable life skills and help them grasp divine healing and freedom. Prayerfully, this will result in a continual growth in life skills and a personal relationship with God.
